The Playthings

Band

London indie rock band Franny drummed in, gigging 1987/88-1992. Three singles released; the album 'Consumed' only reached test-pressing stage.

Franny spent most of her teenage years practising paradiddles until finally plucking up the courage to answer an ad in Melody Maker - "Vegetarian drummer wanted. Obsessive commitment, not necessarily skill." - which led to her playing every toilet in London with indie-pop band The Playthings. Sometimes on school nights.

They split up three years and one album - 'Consumed' - later.

Confirmed releases (Discogs): 'Sugar & Spice' 7" (Corrosive Records, 1990), 'War, Madness and Shopping' 7" (Bad Girl Records, 1990), 'Get Off Of My Cloud' flexi-disc (A Corrosive Production), and 'Consumed' LP (test pressing only, Ecuador Records, 1992).

Producer Paul Sampson recalled recording 'Consumed' in 1989, with Franny on drums aged 17 - he later worked as sound engineer on Age of Stupid's orchestral score.
